Hope you’re all well, Stepping into Autumn with beautiful sunshine…. Fingers crossed!
What a summer we had! A little bit different to last year but it was lovely all the same. After a rescheduled date, we had a wonderful time at our summer party. For the first time in a number of years we didn’t catch the weather just right but between the tent and the main sitting room we had just as good an afternoon as usual. Thank you all so much for coming and enjoying the day with us. The Kerlogue Residents Choir were a great addition to the day with great guidance from the Kerrie, out wonderful Music Therapist and Michael continued the singsong into the afternoon.
We had a few trips during the summer just to a few local areas, Tomhaggard, Rosslare Strand, into the beautiful Wexford quays and most recently, down to Our Lady’s Island this week for the annual Pilgrimage Mass on Thursday past. If there is anywhere you think would be appropriate for a group from the nursing home to visit maybe give your suggestions to our Activity Co-ordinator, Catriona and she can look into organising when possible.
Catriona is going to continue the Friday morning Coffee mornings in the training room for the duration of September provided the weather holds up…again….fingers crossed. So if your around on a Friday morning you’re more than welcome to pop in with your loved one if Catriona has the tea room open for business. And with the Wexford Opera festival approaching, we have a few festive events planned for everyone.
We had our unannounced visit from our HIQA inspector on Thursday the 8th of August. Over all we were very Happy with the inspection and very proud of all the staff who continually do fantastic work as part of our team. All the residents and family members were asked for their opinions of the home, we thank you for all your words, very kind and supportive and it’s great to get as much feedback so we can continue to provide up to date care and be the best that we can be each day. The comments and suggestions box is at the sign in book at the main reception if you do wish to pass on anything to us. The HIQA report sometimes can take a while to be published but will be available online in the coming months.
So it’s that time of year again that the staff have been training up for all summer, the Charity Football match. This year, it has turned into a bit of a round-robin as not only Wygram but also Knockeen and Castlebridge Nursing Home’s are all taking part to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s society of Ireland. The match itself is on this coming Wednesday, the 4th of September in the North End Pitch in Wexford Town. If you would like to come down and watch us have a go at kicking the ball towards the goal, hopefully past the other nursing home’s, we’re kicking off around 5 o clock. There is a collection box at the reception any donations to our fundraising efforts are really really appreciated. The Alzheimer’s Society do really great work in the area, supporting both the people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and also their families and loved ones. So thank you in advance for your support, Every cent raised local, stays local. The website https://alzheimer.ie/ is a great way to point you in the right direction if you need a bit of support for you or your loved one, so check it out.
Again a gentle reminder to all visitors that smoking on the premises is only permitted in certain areas. The smoking area for residents is in the Coolballow internal Garden. Smoking for all other staff and visitors is only permitted in the car park beside the staff/training building inside the front gate. We would appreciate if you could stick to these restrictions as much as possible as we are doing are best to promote a smoke free facility. Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
Tea and coffee are both available for all families and visitors in the kitchenette in Coolballow. Please feel free to help yourselves. Unfortunately, the other kitchenettes are working areas and are too busy for us to allow visitors to use. Your understanding is much appreciated.
Thank you all for your patience as we are continuing to freshen up the nursing home with a brighter look. It is taking a while as we need to accommodate the whole house in the repainting process but step by step I think we’re getting there.
Finally, If you would like to speak to the DON, Mary, or any of the nurses about your resident, or care plans etc, please feel free to make an appointment at reception so we can be sure to give you undivided attention to discuss any matters you wish to discuss, but the door is always open otherwise also.
Enjoy the Autumn!
